Medhurst Cabernet Sauvignon 2015. Blackberry, bay leaf and black olives with hints of spice and subtle floral perfumes drive the nose of the wine. The palate controlled by fine and talc-like tannins woven into a persistent and pure fruit finish. With tremendous poise and elegance, the 2016 Medhurst Cabernet Sauvignon will continue to improve with careful cellaring for over a decade. Ideally matched with locally farmed spring lamb cutlets and crisp rosemary, salted roast kipflers.
Chard Farm River Run Pinot Noir 2018 . Aromas of bright cherry and berry fruits lightly spiced with a lingering floral and herbal perfume. Wonderfully supple and silky on the palate, highlighting the ripe cherry, red berry and spice flavours, finishing with superb balance and drinkability.
Ricca Terra Marathon Man 2017 Medium weight, dark berry fruit flavors, warm spice notes, some floral things going on. It’s attractive, no doubt. Palate has a chewy, dusty edge, firm tannin ribs the wine and yet darker fruits jostle there too.
Flametree SRS Wallcliffe Syrah 2016. This unashamedly medium bodied Syrah styled Shiraz shows lovely lifted spice, clove, orange peel, liquorice, plum, blackberry and earthy notes. The palate displays a wonderful core of elegant blue/black fruits, spice and fine tannins. The lifted fruits are supported by a nice core of oak and stalk tannin. Drinking well at the moment the wine will develop added complexity over the next 6 months and then age for up to 10 years.
Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. Dark purple. Fragrant nose of grape skins, menthol and violets. Velvety texture, intense but not overbearing, notes of mint, menthol, eucalyptus and violets around a core of purple fruits, somewhat monotonous, long finish.
Winemaker Ben Glaetzer continues to fashion big, bold Barossa Valley Shiraz. The 2015 Amon Ra Shiraz is another in a long line of muscular wines that manage to offer complexity, power and a surprising degree of elegance. Charred beef, black olives and espresso notes meet blackberries and cassis on the nose and palate, delivering near-tidal waves of flavor and personality. Fullbodied, intense and velvety, it should age well for at least a decade, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it still drinking well past 2030.
The Other Wine Co Shiraz Pinot Noir 2018. Stepping into the realm of hip new (old) wine styles, the Shaw + Smith team have blended up their own version of Adelaide Hills Pinot Shiraz.
This blend works wonderfully in the Adelaide Hills – the naturally spicy Shiraz of the region finds its perfect foil in the sweetly fruited, floral Hills Pinot Noir.
While the S+S wines are made in a serious, cellaring style, this is meant to be opened and enjoyed immediately.
A ‘nouveau’ red that’s a great addition to this vibrant label.
Schwarz Wine Co Meta Shiraz 2016.The nose has a white pepper lift over concentrated red and blue fruit. Medium Bodied and linear on the palate with mouth feel and fine tannins. White pepper spice combined bright red cherry and red plums.
Warramate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016. A medium-bodied “classic” claret style featuring a succulent, fruit-layered palate integrated with earthy complexity & fine dusty tannins. Juicy acidity underscores well-weighted voluminous fruit & a deep, long finish, combining generosity & concentration with finesse rarely found at this price point.
Cirillo Shiraz 2017 – made with grapes sourced from high altitude vines from Steingarten on the border of Barossa and Eden Valley ranges.
With open fermentation, natural yeast , basket pressed and then matured in seasoned French and American oak for 12 months.
The colour is dark, ink-like in appearance. It displays earthy spice driven aromas, with hints of berry fruits. Soft and delicate on the palate, typical of shiraz from this region.
It carries mid-palate weight, with a lengthy finish that lingers in the mouth for some time. This wine can be enjoyed now or over the next decade or two.
Mas Doix Les Cretes Priorat 2011 – Fruity, fresh and expressive. A genuine young and delicious Priorat wine. Les Crestes vineyards are situated at a height of 400 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called “licorella”. A third of the grapes comes from vineyards of more than 50 years old, and the rest comes from vineyards with an average of 15/20 years old.
Blend: 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan, 10% Syrah
