Schwarz Wine Co Meta Shiraz 2016.The nose has a white pepper lift over concentrated red and blue fruit. Medium Bodied and linear on the palate with mouth feel and fine tannins. White pepper spice combined bright red cherry and red plums.
Tim Smith Bugalugs Shiraz 2019. This features aromas of blue and black fruit, a hint of spice and a slippery, glossy palate packed with flavour. It’s Barossa to its core. But there’s freshness here too, a cherry pip acidity and some peppery, earthy characters through the finish.
The Other Wine Co Shiraz Pinot Noir 2018. Stepping into the realm of hip new (old) wine styles, the Shaw + Smith team have blended up their own version of Adelaide Hills Pinot Shiraz.
This blend works wonderfully in the Adelaide Hills – the naturally spicy Shiraz of the region finds its perfect foil in the sweetly fruited, floral Hills Pinot Noir.
While the S+S wines are made in a serious, cellaring style, this is meant to be opened and enjoyed immediately.
A ‘nouveau’ red that’s a great addition to this vibrant label.
Sigurd Red Blend 2018 is a blend of Grenache (57%), Syrah (8%), Carignan (14%), Mourvedre (21%), all the components were fermented separately with around 10 to 14 day ferments with about 20% whole bunch. Fermented in 1000L wooden vats with heading down boards using native yeast, pressed to 1000L wooden vats and 500L used French oak barrels for about 15 months of elevage, left to settle in tank for a week and then bottled. A small amount of Sulfur just before bottling. The 30 year old Mourvedre out of Koonunga in Northern Barossa, the 25 year old Syrah from around Williamstown which I manage organically. Grenache from 80 year old vines in Tanunda and the young vine Carignan out of Northern Barossa area of Ebenezer.
Flametree SRS Wallcliffe Syrah 2016. This unashamedly medium bodied Syrah styled Shiraz shows lovely lifted spice, clove, orange peel, liquorice, plum, blackberry and earthy notes. The palate displays a wonderful core of elegant blue/black fruits, spice and fine tannins. The lifted fruits are supported by a nice core of oak and stalk tannin. Drinking well at the moment the wine will develop added complexity over the next 6 months and then age for up to 10 years.
Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. Dark purple. Fragrant nose of grape skins, menthol and violets. Velvety texture, intense but not overbearing, notes of mint, menthol, eucalyptus and violets around a core of purple fruits, somewhat monotonous, long finish.
Walsh & Sons Felix Syrah 2016. We have gone for a new take on an old Australian Classic … Syrah. Our wines are designed to have edgy bits because we think its these differences that define us. To that end it’s not fined or filtered. We choose family names from our younger generation because our hopes lie with them and it seems only right that wine with developing personalities have a name to match. This wine has green, white and black pepper characteristics.
Warramate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016. A medium-bodied “classic” claret style featuring a succulent, fruit-layered palate integrated with earthy complexity & fine dusty tannins. Juicy acidity underscores well-weighted voluminous fruit & a deep, long finish, combining generosity & concentration with finesse rarely found at this price point.
Mr Barval Cabernet Merlot 2017 A restrained yet complex nose displaying a wonderful mix of cassis, black berry, currant, and plum, hints of spicey oak and a typically delicate Margaret River savoury dried kelp note. Medium to full bodied with plenty of acid to lift the palate and balance the autumn fruit bowl of dark and red berries and fruits. The youthful tannins are nutty, fine and dry and complete the well structured palate to perfection. This wine is already showing great depth and complexity in youth and I feel it has great potential to age and develop for at least 15 years.
Chateau Mont-Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2016. Inky hue violet deep violet rim. Intense nose with red fruit aromas combined to complex smokiness. Palate with tight and focused tannins. Enjoyable now but require few years of bottle maturation to fully integrate aging notes. Very elegant and refined finish.
Mas Doix Les Cretes Priorat 2011 – Fruity, fresh and expressive. A genuine young and delicious Priorat wine. Les Crestes vineyards are situated at a height of 400 meters above sea level on hillsides of pronounced slopes, with the characteristic slate soil called “licorella”. A third of the grapes comes from vineyards of more than 50 years old, and the rest comes from vineyards with an average of 15/20 years old.
Blend: 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan, 10% Syrah
