The Other Wine Co. Cabernet Franc 2018 South Australia Kangaroo Island
The Other Wine Co. Cabernet Franc 2018 is juicy and distinctive and that combination is enough to recommend it. It’s dusty, jubey, grassy, curranty and super-fresh. There are briar, sap and woodsy aspects. Tannin presents as a series of crumpled sheets. It has good style, it’s entertaining, and it’s accessible.

The Other Wine Co.
Ever since day one, back in 2015, we’ve always been about drinkability and deliciousness. Wines of purity, flavour, balance and purpose…served with a twist.
Our young winemaking team, spearheaded by Sam Davies, is driven to explore otherness though new regions, different varieties and experimental winemaking styles. Each time they ask the simple questions “Are we passionate about this place? Does this grape excite us? Can we have fun with it?”. That’s the guidebook to The Other Wine Co. Some of them are classics, some of them are mavericks; all of them make sense to us.
We proudly make these wines at Shaw + Smith, in our beautiful Adelaide Hills home in Balhannah. We’ve got some brilliant kit and some super creative minds here to work with. You can count on us to always be on the look out for something new, we’re thirsty for any opportunity to push texture and chase freshness. You don’t try, you don’t learn.
And so we welcome you to our home here on the web. We want you to enjoy your visit and if you’d like to chat to us about anything give us a shout. As much as we love drinking these wines, they only exist for you to enjoy, be that at home, or in a restaurant or bar. We hope they embody The Other Wine Co. spirit of adventure and pursuit to be other.
Sam kicked off his winemaking career in NZ, making wine on Waiheke Island for 4 years. To be fair, if you’ve been to Waiheke you might be wondering why he ever left. Adventure called and his wanderings have taken him across the globe with stops in the Margaret River, Grampians, McLaren Vale and finally Portugal where he found his mojo in the well known regions of the Douro Valley and Alentejo.
Fortunately for all of us, we were able to convince him to join our merry band and settle in the Adelaide Hills, bringing back plenty of Portugese winemaking smarts with him. That year was 2015, coinciding with the first vintage for The Other Wine Co.
Only good things since.
