Rocche Costamagna Barbera D’Alba Superiore 2015

$43.95

Rocche Costamagna Babera D’Alba Superiore 2015 comes from a single vineyard in Verduno, and really wows with its complexity and energy. There’s notes of smoked meats, ripe beef tomatoes and blue fruits. The palate is cool and suave, but with so much potential and concentration. With a long, unfurling finish, this is a Barbera from the very top drawer. Produced only in the best years.

Verduno

In the municipality of Verduno, some Barbera vineyards are destined for harvesting to produce Barbera d’Alba Superiore . The Verduno soil offers wines with fragrant and spicy aromas.

We are convinced that the attention in the vineyard is fundamental to obtain unique wines.
The new vineyards are high plant density (from 4500 to 5500 plants / Ha). Very important is the thinning of the bunches between the middle and the end of July. Only by decreasing the yields do we obtain grapes of great concentration. Each vineyard and each individual cru are then vinified separately in order to preserve and enhance the specific characteristics of the vine and the terroir of origin in each wine.

History Of Rocche Costamagna

On May 15, 1841 , the Police Office of the Royal Military Command of the city and province of Alba granted Luigi Costamagna, son of Francesco Antonio, the permit “for retail wine trade […] for the wine produced from the grapes of his vineyards “in La Morra.
In 1911 , Francesco and his son Riccardo won the Gold Medal at the International Exhibition Grand Prix in Turin , for presenting fifty years of uninterrupted production.

After Francesco’s death, his son Riccardo , a lawyer in Turin and Alba, continued to manage the company with the help of his wife Maddalena. In the 1930s, after Riccardo’s death, Maddalena sold the properties outside of La Morra, but not the vineyards located in the Rocche dell’Annunziata . We limited ourselves to making wine for the needs of the family, and most of the grapes were sold.

At the end of the sixties, the granddaughter Claudia Ferraresi , together with her husband Giorgio Locatelli , took over the reins of the family business, alongside the profession of painter with that of a wine entrepreneur.
The winemaking activity is increased with the planting of new vineyards and the restoration of the historic cellars is slowly beginning.

Since the mid-eighties, the young Alessandro Locatelli has dealt with every aspect of management. Significantly improves the management of vineyards and winemaking, takes care of sales by expanding the sales network to the four continents.
