HISTORY

The Indigo Wine Company was established in 1997, after a year long, Australia wide search for The Great Vineyard Site led us to a sheep station called The Big Valley. In 1999 plantings commenced. Our very first wine in 2000 was called Medley it was a combination of all the berries from barely one year old vines, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet all blended together. After more than 15 years our wines are consistently applauded by critics.

ETHOS

Growing superb grapes is both our passion and our core business. Everyone agrees that “great wines start in the vineyard”. As specialist grape growers, we are proud that our grapes find their way into fabulous wines produced by great wine makers. While our facilities are rustic we make sure our wines receive the best. A simple example is the Riedel glasses you taste with at the cellar door.

SUSTAINABILITY

We aim to have a light touch on the earth. We have a focused effort on vine health through biodynamic methods, 100 tonne compost application, undervine slashing to promote microbial activity and nutrient monitoring. Our flock of Dorper sheep keep our midrows down reducing our tractor work and thus both diesel use and soil compaction while adding nutrients from their dung. All of this assists with fertiliser management and biodiversity.
