Padrillos Malbec 2018. The Padrillos Malbec from Ernesto Catena shows lovely aromas of violets with dark fruits that fill the nose. The palate is soft, as toasty oak wraps around dark fruits with a hint of chocolate.
Marq DNA Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Lifted aroma of blueberry, black currant and chocolate mint with hints of cedary oak and signature Margaret River tomato leaf.
A full bodied wine with a rich juicy palate and abundant fine velvety tannins. It has intense red and black fruits with a background of tasty oak and hints of black jub and mocha.
Castelli Shiraz 2016 is a classic example of Great Southern Shiraz . Aromas of
blackberries, mulberries, plum pudding and intense spices with hints of star anise and chocolate fudge. The full-bodied palate builds to a crescendo before finishing with sweet, rounded tannins that are perfectly integrated with savoury French oak. The intensity of flavour and complex structural components in the wine can only be achieved from fully ripened Cool Climate fruit. This wine will be able to be confidently cellared over the next 7-10 years.
Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. Dark purple. Fragrant nose of grape skins, menthol and violets. Velvety texture, intense but not overbearing, notes of mint, menthol, eucalyptus and violets around a core of purple fruits, somewhat monotonous, long finish.
Accordini Amarone della Valpolicella 2013. Intense red ruby colour with garnet shades, elegant bouquet with black cherry hints, very mature fruits and spices. It’s a wine with great structure and complexity, but still smooth and elegant.
The Tellurian Redline Shiraz 2018 comes from Block 2 and Block 3 of the Tellurian vineyard growing on Cambrian soils formed over 500 million years. Deep, rich, decomposed greenstone rock and limestone with soil depths up to 2m allow roots to reach deep, while relatively low fertility controls vigour and yield.
Deep crimson-red colour. The nose displays charcuterie notes, slightly chary oak, and expressive dark fruit. The medium bodied palate is round and plush with dark fruit, and blackberry combining with and spice and soft tannins, making it a wine that’s very approachable in its youth. This is an impressive expression of Heathcote Shiraz. Delicious! For an ‘entry level’ shiraz this shows the true class of this producer!
The Octogenarian Grenache 2016 Ruby red in the glass with cranberry, plum, spice and vanillin oak aromas. On the palate, it’s a rich and full-bodied Grenache with juicy raspberry and plum core depth, savoury tannin foundation a crisp line of acidity and balanced oak.
Pasolini dall’onda Rosso Toscana 2018 – A fun Rosso from Tuscany. Nose of cherry and violet notes, dry and juicy at the
palate.
Yelland & Papps Shiraz 2016. Dark cherry-red in colour with vibrant fruit aromas of dark plum, macerated summer berry fruits along with higher tones of raspberry and redcurrant. Here are hints of deep exotic spice, Barossa earth, roasting meats, licorice, violets and gentle nutty French Oak nuances.
Medium-bodied on the palate with a lovely bright line across the palate and a sense of space to the mouthfeel. Once more the fruit flavours are of dark and black-fruits; dark plum, blackberry, mulberry with some blueberry and raspberry notes adding lift to the wine on the palate. Plenty of spicy notes, meaty nuances, floral lift and earthy tones mesh together on the palate. The finish lingers persistently and is pure and juicy with the fruit coming to the fore, gentle sandy tannins providing support and a bright line of acidity providing the drive. Elegant, delicious drinking from the excellent 2016 vintage.
Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz 2019. Incredible value. Dom Torzi sets a modest price, but is invariably confident about the quality of his wines.
Bright blueberry and blackberry, plenty of pepper and spice, potpourri perfume. It’s medium bodied, sleek and dark cherry juicy, super fine tannin, some meaty and nutty flavours, gentle stony tannin pulling along the finish.
The fruit was hand-picked, 100% de-stemmed and mechanically berry-sorted, with only 50% of that crushed. 5 day cold soak at approximately 10 degrees. The wild fermentation is encouraged as the tank is warmed to approximately 20 degrees. We only plunge during the fermentation. No pressings are used. We drain off the wine to barrel and keep it on yeast lees for the entire 10 months of maturation, using only our best 1 and 2 year-old French oak. Individual barrels are chosen that display the pedigree of the deep sand, with intense fragrance juxtaposed with intense fruit expression and gritty long tannin structure. Not Fined. Bottled February 2015. Certified Biodynamic.
