This is a rich and luscious red wine with oodles of sweet black fruit and ripe berry character. The Mourvedre lends structure to the wine, whilst the Carignan gives a distinctive blueberry allure. Hints of coffee and liquorice come through, making it long and complex. This will not disappoint.

Greenstone Shiraz 2016. A deep and densely presenting wine. Dark red to maroon, with purple and magenta coloured hue.
Rich black currant and blueberry fruits are defined in the aromatics. Lifted characters of dried oregano and tarragon intermingle, while undertones of dark plum and oak spices are brooding. Flowing onto the palate, the aromatics are all present in flavour and are tightly packed. The fruit sweetness is balanced, and reigned in somewhat, by a refined tannin structure producing an elegance and great persistence. Dark chocolate and toasted oak notes find their way through in the finish.
A Shiraz of this standing will benefit cellaring for 10+ years, while still being enjoyable and rewarding in its youth.
Craiglee Cabernet Sauvignon 2015. A sensational, medium-bodied cabernet sauvignon loaded with fragrant red and ripe blackberry fruits. It builds with savoury, cedary notes, supple velvety tannins and subtle oak that brings this wine together beautifully and to a long finish. Top stuff. All Craiglee wines are made from estate grown fruit, handpicked from vines that are hand pruned and carefully tended here on our family farm.
Tim Smith Bugalugs Shiraz 2019. This features aromas of blue and black fruit, a hint of spice and a slippery, glossy palate packed with flavour. It’s Barossa to its core. But there’s freshness here too, a cherry pip acidity and some peppery, earthy characters through the finish.
Walsh & Sons Felix Syrah 2016. We have gone for a new take on an old Australian Classic … Syrah. Our wines are designed to have edgy bits because we think its these differences that define us. To that end it’s not fined or filtered. We choose family names from our younger generation because our hopes lie with them and it seems only right that wine with developing personalities have a name to match. This wine has green, white and black pepper characteristics.
Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. Dark purple. Fragrant nose of grape skins, menthol and violets. Velvety texture, intense but not overbearing, notes of mint, menthol, eucalyptus and violets around a core of purple fruits, somewhat monotonous, long finish.
Cirillo Shiraz 2018 – made with grapes sourced from high altitude vines from Steingarten on the border of Barossa and Eden Valley ranges.
With open fermentation, natural yeast , basket pressed and then matured in seasoned French and American oak for 12 months.
The colour is dark, ink-like in appearance. It displays earthy spice driven aromas, with hints of berry fruits. Soft and delicate on the palate, typical of shiraz from this region.
It carries mid-palate weight, with a lengthy finish that lingers in the mouth for some time. This wine can be enjoyed now or over the next decade or two.
Milcrest Syrah 2012. A single vineyard Syrah, grown on a North-facing, sun-drenched site and picked at optimum ripeness. It has Northern Rhone characters of white pepper and dried herbs, combined with a lovely fruit richness and generous oak character through extended barrel ageing.
Mr Barval Cabernet Merlot 2017 A restrained yet complex nose displaying a wonderful mix of cassis, black berry, currant, and plum, hints of spicey oak and a typically delicate Margaret River savoury dried kelp note. Medium to full bodied with plenty of acid to lift the palate and balance the autumn fruit bowl of dark and red berries and fruits. The youthful tannins are nutty, fine and dry and complete the well structured palate to perfection. This wine is already showing great depth and complexity in youth and I feel it has great potential to age and develop for at least 15 years.
Warramate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 A medium-bodied “classic” claret style featuring a succulent, fruit-layered palate integrated with earthy complexity & fine dusty tannins. Juicy acidity underscores well-weighted voluminous fruit & a deep, long finish, combining generosity & concentration with finesse rarely found at this price point.
The fruit was hand-picked, 100% de-stemmed and mechanically berry-sorted, with only 50% of that crushed. 5 day cold soak at approximately 10 degrees. The wild fermentation is encouraged as the tank is warmed to approximately 20 degrees. We only plunge during the fermentation. No pressings are used. We drain off the wine to barrel and keep it on yeast lees for the entire 10 months of maturation, using only our best 1 and 2 year-old French oak. Individual barrels are chosen that display the pedigree of the deep sand, with intense fragrance juxtaposed with intense fruit expression and gritty long tannin structure. Not Fined. Bottled February 2015. Certified Biodynamic.
Chateau Mont-Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2016. Inky hue violet deep violet rim. Intense nose with red fruit aromas combined to complex smokiness. Palate with tight and focused tannins. Enjoyable now but require few years of bottle maturation to fully integrate aging notes. Very elegant and refined finish.
Ministry Of Clouds Kintsugi GSM 2015 – A Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz and Cinsault blend (80/10/5/5), the Kintsugi is vintage dependent. Such a pretty wine, it has a softly-softly delivery as it caresses the mouth. Red berry fruit up front with peppermint very much relaxing out the back. Lighter than expected in the mouth, a gentle rub of earthiness gets me further enthused. Another whiff and purple flowers and blueberries waft on by. A minerally feel is apparent too along with some dried herbs for good measure. What sets this wine apart is the absolute marriage of all parts creating a seamless result. It’s hard not to be in love. Delightful.
Drink now to eight years.
