One of the great up and coming producers from the Chianti classico zone,
Cigliano is producing superb Chianti Classico wines. One of the
original Antinori Estates, the San Casciano Val di Pesa area is just perfect for
producing fine Chianti Classico. They follows traditional methods and
blending to produce these outstanding wines..

Indigenous yeasts start the alcoholic fermentation, selected yeasts added only if needed. Skin contact for 10-15 days. Spontaneous Malo-lactic Fermentation in concrete tanks. Aging in big old wood casks for 12 months, then 11 months in concrete tanks. Colorino is aged separetly in amphora then blended. Aging in bottle for few months before commercialization.

All the wines are exclusively produced with estate grown grapes. They are distinguished by a traditional style which mainly favours elegance and finesse, rather than power.

Philosophy

The aim is to retain a strong ‘terroir’ identity, an authentic expression of the most northern part of the Chianti Classico area, which is characterized by its great potential and which is becoming the subject of growing attention. Villa del Cigliano is becoming a point of reference in this area, and plays an active role in the current debate on the “Additional Geographical Definitions” of the Chianti Classico appellation.

Special attention should also be given to the Vinsanto which, rather than displaying the more recently accepted straightforward taste, demonstrates the dry character, which is typical of the true Tuscan tradition.

In the vineyards, year on year, we are extending the practice of organic agriculture, with the objective of becoming certified in a few years time. Also, reducing environmental impact is one of our major concerns; we are addressing this issue through the use of renewable energy, energy saving methods and waste management.

In the cellar we focus on the use of big old wood casks, and we are also re-using concrete tanks, that belonged, together with the Oak Casks, to this property since a long time ago. Finally we are experimenting a new way of aging “Colorino”, an authocthone grape variety, in Amphora.

Cigliano has been a proud member of FIVI the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers (www.fivi.it) since 2009. From the 2018 Cigliano is also a founding member of “San Casciano Classico“, an association of wineries in San Casciano Val di Pesa.
