ABOUT 1919 DISTILLING
WE’RE A HANDCRAFTED GIN & WHISKY DISTILLERY BASED IN AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND.
We incorporate New Zealand’s finest ingredients with kiwi ingenuity to produce innovative, first-rate spirits that people can get excited about.
We’re driven by a mission to bring more transparency and integrity to the spirits industry. We choose not to compromise on the quality of ingredients and connection to the distilling craft for the sake of scalability.
We choose to use the best ingredients available, rather than cut corners; lemons and oranges grown in New Zealand, hand picked cherries from Otago and sustainably sourced honey. Our goal is to not only use the best ingredients, but to help grow New Zealand business along the way.
Our ethanol is made from sugar cane the same way they did it in the 1900’s. This is unique in New Zealand. It’s cheeper and easier to use the alternative, whey ethanol, (made from milk), which is used by most brands. We believe in using the best to make the best, rather than taking short cuts that compromise the quality of our product.
Our still is New Zealand made and custom built for our Distillery. By choosing to get our still made locally we where able to insure the absolute best quality and craftsmanship, while supporting the grass roots distilling industry in New Zealand.
PROUDLY NZ MADE
We are proud to be New Zealand made and walk the walk, not just talk the talk. Next time you are in your local liquor store look for the words “New Zealand made” on the bottle and not just “New Zealand”. You will likely be surprised by the amount of gins that claim to be New Zealand gins, but are not made here and do not have a physical distillery to call home.
We are proud to have built our very own distillery, here in New Zealand, from the ground up in. We have kept the craft at the heart of what we do, which allows us to push the boundaries and create award-winning, innovative spirits.

Antipodes Pink GinAntipodes Pink Gin
Antipodes Pink Gin
Australia’s first certified organic pink gin. Kakadu plum, olida (strawberry Gum), blue chamomile flowers and ruby red grapefruit gather together with a complex selection of native and exotic botanicals.
Antipodes Gin Co decided to create a gin unlike any other. Australia’s first certified organic and carbon neutral gin.
Inspired by the Sunraysia region and its sun-drenched citrus orchards, simple pleasures and the coming together of friends and shared moments.
Antipodes embodies us and our land we all belong to and it’s search for exciting combinations of flavours from our wild and amazing botanicals that are unique to our island and are free from chemicals and pesticides.
Distilled with 100% renewable electricity in our Canberra distillery, Antipodes Gin is infused with native Australian botanicals including Kakadu Plum, lemon myrtle, strawberry gum, aniseed myrtle and Tasmanian pepperberry.
“Getting organic certification and being carbon neutral was a mindful decision for us. We wanted our business to have less impact on the environment, to promote sustainability, to not use any GMOs or ingredients that are sprayed with pesticides and we also wanted to work alongside like-minded, ethically motivated suppliers.”
“Being Australian Certified Organic means that as a business, we are continually working smarter. Certification and supporting carbon neutral has challenged us to think carefully about every practice and process in our business, and to make sure that everything we do is beneficial on a number of levels,”
It paved the way for some like minded friends too – a super smooth vodka, Espresso Liqueur like no other and a delicate Pink Gin.
Let’s make the Antipodes journey together.
Autonomy Quandong GinAutonomy Quandong Gin
Autonomy Quandong Gin
Native Australian botanicals and orange peels collected from Market Juice are used to create a low food mile gin. A mildly tart yet peachy punch of Quandong is balanced by bright Aussie citrus and Tasmanian Pepperberry. Works so good neat, or with your favourite tonic and a peach garnish.
Our ‘About Us’ story is probably a little different to other distilleries. We’d love to say that our spirits were born from our need to express our passion for individuality and love for crafting something from scratch, using only the most rarest of exotic species kissed by angels and all that tripe, but in all honesty, the reason was quite different.
As we started learning about the process of spirit production, we were astounded by the amount of resources required to produce a bottle of liquor. We felt so many aspects of the process were well, ‘environmentally disproportionate’. We saw the huge quantity of grain and water being used in the fermentation process, the energy required during distillation, the importation of single-use glass bottles and exotic botanicals from all corners of the earth.
So we decided to figure out our own, more sustainable approach to craft spirits.
By using native species of Australian botanicals, we can support local businesses, local farmers and reduce food miles and associated fossil fuels. Instead of peeling whole fruits, we collect citrus peels left over from Market Juice Co after they’re done squeezing fresh juice.
We think consumers should be able to understand the environmental impact of what they eat and drink. And while producing spirits like this won’t change the world, we hope it will influence consumers on the environmental footprint of simple things – like good booze!

The word “barrister” derivates from the English word “bar”, it is the barrier that separates the judge from the defendant. This is the highest rank of lawyer in Britain. Since the XV century, the prisoners could instruct “an educated and eloquent friend” to protect their interests. The barristers had access to the “judicial bar”, thus they could be heard by the court in the interests of their client.
The barrister’s speech in court is precise and sharp as a blade.
They use to say in England about gin that it is “as cold as steel” – due to the strong cold aftertaste.
As Cold As Steel
When the name for the new brand was under discussion on Baker Street in London, the choice fell on “Barrister”, because it reflects best the meaning of the authentic gin AS COLD AS STEEL.

Blue Mountains Grown GinBlue Mountains Grown Gin
Blue Mountains Grown Gin
A limited-edition gin that will help the Blue Mountains’ bushfire relief and regrowth.
Our third collaboration with an iconic Australian botanic garden and arguably the most important. The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah suffered catastrophic damage from the 2019/20 bushfires. Profits from this bottle will help support the Garden’s staff rebuild and restore this crucial collection. Crafted with Master Distiller, Philip Moore, this gin features Eucalyptus pulverulenta as its hero botanical – some say it’s this gum, commonly known as ‘Baby Blue’, that’s behind the famous blue haze of the mountains. And like the mountains themselves, it’s a fresh and cooling homage to this iconic Australian landmark. Juniper plays a big part too, with the balance of this gin coming from a little Valencia Orange, Liquorice root and Angelica.
Blue Mountains Grown Gin / 700ml / 42% Alc Vol
Our first garden and first gin.
We began our journey in 2015 when Grown Founders, Frank Bethel and Will Miles, happened upon a Master Distiller by the name of Phillip Moore, one of Australia’s most awarded and experienced distillers. Quite soon a partnership blossomed and we began making gin from the freshest botanicals picked from the stunning garden just outside the door of the distillery, in Erina.
This gin was all about capturing as purely as possible the essence of the Australian summer garden and on the nose, there are hints of jasmine, sweet honeysuckle and orange blossom. It’s positively balmy. We use the French perfumers’ time-honoured technique of enfleurage to extract the delicate scent and flavour from the hero botanicals Murraya and Duchesse de Brabant Rose, without the use of heat. Combined with a traditional distillation of Juniper, Chamomile, Sage, Angelica and Orris Root and this floral gin comes alive.
